Applications

Caprolactam (CPL for short) is the lactam of 6-aminohexanoic acid (ε-aminohexanoic acid), which can also be regarded as the cyclic amide of hexanoic acid. Caprolactam is mainly used as a monomer in the production of nylon 6. It can be produced by oxime formation reaction of cyclohexanone with hydroxylamine sulphate, followed by Beckman rearrangement reaction. Caprolactam is an irritant and is toxic by ingestion, inhalation or skin contact.
